Position Title: SQL Database Administrator

Salary: $80,000- $86,500 per year commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years of SQL database experience including database design, development, and programming using stored procedures.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Database creation, tuning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving are preferred.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Infrastructure Operations Supervisor, the SQL Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, development, and implementation of policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of County Databases. 



Overview:


Duties:

  • Leads SQL Server software installation, maintenance, and conversions.
  • Maintains multiple databases in development and production environments.
  • Works with development teams on all aspects of database design including tables, views, stored procedures, permissions, etc.
  • Performs logical database design and physical database implementations.
  • Creates tests and conducts performance tuning on databases.
  • Develops SQL processes for data loading, migration, and application interfaces.
  • Designs and implements backup and recovery strategies.
  • Creates deployment scripts, including rollback scripts for all database changes.
  • Monitors daily SQL processes for successful completion.
  • Troubleshoots production problems and be a key part of the first-level support team to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Performs security configuration and administration.
  • Develops and enforces organizational SQL standards and best practices.
  • Assists with project plans and may lead technical projects.
  • Communicates status, issues, and ideas to management.
  • Performs other duties as requested/required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Backup and recovery and database design and modeling.
  • Database creation, tuning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving preferred.
  • Configuration of hardware and software with the system administrators.
  • Security administration, database analysis, database design, and data modeling and optimization.

Skill in:

  • SQL Server installation and maintenance, T-SQL, SQL, and scripting.
  • SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • SQL Integration Services, Visual Studio, and Business Intelligence Transformations in SSIS.
  • Microsoft Office Products.

Ability to:

  • Work effectively with little supervision, both alone, and in a group.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and creative skills, as well as the drive to meet real needs with technology.
  • Develop project specifications & time estimates.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Create informative technical documentation and guides.
  • Facilitate frequent meetings with client departments and vendors.
  • Work outside of normal business hours as needed or required. 

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
