Position Title: Special Projects Coordinator

Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years of experience in project support and coordination within Public Administration, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted (i.e., a related Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for four years of experience in planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating programs).
  • Candidates with direct experience in and/or knowledge of Allegheny County’s procurement, contracting, and monitoring processes are preferred.

 A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.

 It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position.


Position Summary:

The Special Projects Coordinator reports directly to the Special Projects and Planning Manager and is part of a collaborative team responsible for assisting in the coordination and implementation of Department of Children Initiatives’ (DCI) special projects and planning.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Supports the Special Projects and Planning Manager in ensuring the coordination and alignment of project initiatives and activities with the Department of Children Initiatives’ (DCI) goals and strategic plan across sectors.
  • Assists in coordinating DCI contracts, including, but not limited to: conducting site visits, monitoring and evaluating program implementation, and supporting participants as needed.
  • Conducts research on policies, trends, models, and best practices at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Coordinates Allegheny County-level data collection and mapping for the purposes of supporting projects and promoting equitable access to high-quality early learning programming, planning, and coordination.
  • Engages with community members and represents DCI in public settings while promoting the achievement of the Department’s mission and goals.
  • Performs other duties related or requested to the overall goals of DCI as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Processes for procurement, contracting, and monitoring.
  • Broad knowledge of the Early Learning & Out-of-School Time landscape for children, families, and providers.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.

Ability to:

  • Learn about and utilize the full range of programs, services, policies, and issues that impact Allegheny County’s children and their families.
  • Interact with a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to DCI staff, partner agencies, children and youth, family members, community partners, and providers.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member, dedicated to motivating and educating others.
  • Demonstrate commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and cultural responsiveness in early learning systems building.
  • Work across disciplines, departments, and programs.
  • Communicate clearly and persuasively both orally and in writing.
  • Travel to various locations within Allegheny County.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
