Position Title: Coordinator of Process Improvement

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000.00 per year commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Public Administration, Public Policy, Statistics, or a related field AND four (4) years of experience in process improvement including Lean Six Sigma or other related experience. 
  • Additional education with an emphasis or certification in process improvement techniques may be substituted for up to two (2) years of work experience. 
  • Applicants with a Master’s Degree are preferred.

Position Summary:

Working under the direction of the Director of Performance and Analytics, the Coordinator of Process Improvement will work to create a culture of continuous improvement across County departments. The scope of responsibility is wide ranging and includes developing and leading training, identifying and guiding process improvements projects within departments, and reporting and implementing project results. This position is the subject matter expert on process improvement in Allegheny County. The Coordinator of Process Improvement is also a project manager, managing PI projects and other key projects for the Office of the County Manager.

Duties:

  • Maps the current state of business processes and collaborates with departments to solve problems.
  • Documents projects and processes according to department policy, facilitates meetings with diverse stakeholders to identify problems, and recommends an approach to address the root causes of problems.
  • Supports and leads process improvement projects.
  • Trains and builds the capabilities of departments and their leadership teams to develop and implement strategy, monitor performance, continually improve, and innovate.
  • Teaches the performance management disciplines such as Lean Six Sigma, Plan-Do-Check-Adjust, and Project Management to project employees.
  • Facilitates check-in meetings and helps provide accountability for team members, managers, and executives.
  • Conducts project related statistical analysis and trains County employees in advanced data and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Manages other special projects as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, strategies and opportunities to improve operations in a cost-effective manner, without compromising the quality of services provided to citizens.
  • Process improvement disciplines such as Lean Six Sigma.
  • Process mapping and project management, including knowledge of Visio and MS Project or other PM software.
  • Statistical analysis and software.

  • Handle multiple projects efficiently and meet established deadlines.
  • Provide change management leadership in the development of a continuous improvement culture.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
