Position Title: Project Manager - Architect

Salary: $72,000- $73,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution AND five (5) years of experience in architectural design.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Architecture license is preferred.

 Applicants must possess and maintain a valid PA Driver’s License throughout employment.

 It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Facilities Management Deputy Director, the Project Manager – Architect is responsible for meeting with users and developing the scope of design projects, reviewing and approving architectural documents, managing design projects undertaken by consultants to Allegheny County, and managing construction contracts. This position requires the ability to perform quality control reviews of plans and specifications as well as to perform construction administration as required. Work is performed under general direction and guidance and in accordance with sound construction management practices and procedures as established by Allegheny County.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Meets with users to develop scopes of work and budgets.
  • Develops initial conceptual designs and collaborates with consultants of Allegheny County.
  • Creates presentation documents under the direction of the Deputy Director.
  • Conducts research regarding architectural standards and codes, prepares and reviews architectural drawings, photographs sites and structures, and performs field inspections necessary for preparation of accurate plans, diagrams, and other materials.
  • Develops overall design solutions based on determination of needs, budgetary guidelines, and other pertinent factors.
  • Collaborates with other department staff and contractors to resolve outstanding design, cost, or construction issues.
  • Reviews contract plans and specifications for the adherence to applicable design standards.
  • Works with and provides direction to Allegheny County trades personnel for Capital and In-house projects.
  • Oversees construction activities and performs inspections as required.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Sustainability to incorporate sustainable practices that result in healthier workplaces and environments.
  • Manages and administers construction contracts, including negotiation of change orders and authorization of payments to contractors and consultants.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Architectural design principles.
  • New and existing building codes.
  • Safety in the workplace and Sustainability principles.

Skill in:

  • Sketchup, AutoCAD, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Microsoft Office products: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

Ability to:

  • Work independently as well as a member of a team of Architects, Project Managers, and various County Trades personnel.
  • Manage project schedules.
  • Demonstrate excellent personal time management skills and organizational abilities.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Evaluate design and construction work.
  • Maintain records and prepare accurate reports.
  • Attend evening meetings and support special project deadlines outside the normal work week.
  • Lift or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Work in a moderate noise level environment.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
