Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and two (2) years’ experience with group and individual counseling.
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is acceptable.
Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant. Must have current CPR/BLS certification at time of appointment.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.
Position Summary:
The incumbent provides direct psychological services, including psychosocial assessment and screening for severity of substance use disorder; individual, group and family therapy behavior modification, treatment planning, case management, and psycho-education to male, female, and juvenile inmates at the Allegheny County Jail.
Overview:
Duties:
- Coordinates, monitors, and administers substance use treatment and psychoeducation.
- Functions as a member of the Substance Use Programs treatment team, in collaboration with other treatment-relevant disciplines.
- Facilitates group and individual counseling sessions.
- Develops appropriate aftercare and discharge plans.
- Completes all paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participates in meetings, training programs, and other functions related to the job.
- Complies with all governing standards as outlined by the Allegheny County Jail.
- Acts in accordance with all governing ethical codes.
- Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed by the Director of Substance Use Programs.
- Completes level of care assessments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Behavior Modification, and other research based effective treatments.
- Harm Reduction Philosophies and Principles: Including, but not limited to: Methadone, Suboxone, Subutex, Vivitrol/Naltrexone, Narcan/Naloxone
- Treatment processes and procedures, and the laws and regulations that govern correctional care and treatment.
- Confidentiality restrictions: 42 CFR, PA Code 255.5, HIPAA
- Trauma Informed Care and Sanctuary Models
- ASAM level of care criteria and assessment process.
Skill in:
Ability to:
- Interact with inmates in a professional manner.
- Prepare and administer counseling services.
- Be accountable for the quality of care and treatment provided to inmates.
- Plan, implement, and interpret treatment plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, jail administration/healthcare management, and other stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff.
- Work shifts in 24/7 facility.
- Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and other computer software programs necessary for the work.
- Utilize Electronic Health Record.
