Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Administration of Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or Criminology. 

Will be required to be a certified Notary Public within 1 year of employment.

Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.

Duties:

  • Works with inmates to determine individual needs including but not limited to:
  • Coordination and collaboration with probation/parole.
  • Verifying address for release with the courts.
  • Identifying and assisting with re-integration needs and makes referrals as appropriate.
  • Coordination with the courts for upcoming hearings as necessary.
  • Participates in any classification or re-classification tasks as directed.
  • Recommends available programs and services based on inmate’s needs and assists in the coordination of programming and services.
  • Completes visits to assigned housing units no less than three (3) times a week.
  • Addresses day-to-day concerns of unit staff and inmates as needed.
  • Conducts assessments as directed.
  • Responds to inmates’ requests either directly received from an inmate or received from Administration.
  • Submits parole forms and other documentation to Jail Administration and the Courts as directed.
  • Supports and assists with all safety and justice initiatives to reduce the overall jail population and recidivism.
  • Resolves conflicts regarding an inmate’s charges, sentencing information, and other stipulations/mandates imposed by the Courts.
  • Coordinates with Alternative Housing, Inmate Programs, and Reentry for collaboration with services.
  • Works with other County departments and agencies.
  • Attends trainings as directed.
  • Participates on committees and workgroups as designated by the Warden or Deputy Wardens.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

  • General laws, guidelines, policies, and procedures of appropriate agencies and government jurisdictions
