Minimum Requirements:
- A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or a graduate of an approved Registered Nurse (RN) program.
- Two (2) years of experience as an RN OR four (4) years of staff development experience in a Long-Term Care Facility (LTC) or Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF).
- Must be eligible to participate in federally funded health care programs prior to appointment.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Staff Development supervises, directs, plans, develops, implements, evaluates, and coordinates all training, staff development, and corporate learning experiences for the Kane Community Living Centers. This position serves as a consultant to the Staff Development Coordinators in each of the Kane Community Living Centers. This position may require working beyond normal hours, on weekends, and on holidays as needed.

Duties:
- Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the Kane System’s Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) development programs in conjunction with local colleges and universities, to educate and train current staff to assume CNA, LPN, and RN positions.
- Participates in the completion of the facility assessment at least annually to determine the knowledge and skills required among staff to meet residents’ needs.
- Identifies and prioritizes the facility’s educational needs through the completion of an educational needs assessment, based on the results of the facility assessment.
- Coordinates the annual mandatory education for all disciplines
- Works closely with the facility’s Compliance Officer and other leaders in developing a training plan that addresses all regulatory requirements and any other topics identified in the facility assessment and/or needs assessment, including the required CNA mandatory education. Develop educational calendars in accordance with the plan.
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and oversees orientation programs for all personnel.
- Reviews educational content to ensure the information reflects current standards of practice and facility policies and procedures. Develops or revises content as needed. Utilizes outside resources for content development, such as consultants, content experts, or electronic learning systems.
- Collaborates with department managers to develop competencies required for meeting residents’ needs and assists with evaluating competencies, depending on the knowledge-based, technical, or behavioral nature of the competency.
- Schedules trainings with flexibility to ensure limited disruption of resident care, and ample opportunity for staff to attend; posts notices of trainings in advance.
- Collaborates with the Administrator during routine evaluation of the training program’s effectiveness.
- Coordinates with facility managers and supervisors to obtain input on training needs, resulting in employee performance improvement on the job.
- Researches opportunities for staff to obtain continuing education credits for maintaining certifications/licensure and maintains all documentation related to continuing education.
- Oversees the review and evaluation of commercially produced instruction material to determine efficacy for the Kane System and recommends purchase of materials.
- Develops onboarding training plans as well as remediation plans as needed.
- Participates as a member of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committees as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
