Position Title: Birth to Five Coordinator

Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • A High School Diploma AND five (5) years of experience in project support and coordination within public policy, public administration, education, human services, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.


A valid Driver’s License is required upon appointment.

Position Summary:

The Birth to Five Coordinator reports directly to the Birth to Five Manager and is responsible for aiding in the coordination and development of Department of Children Initiatives’ (DCI) strategic priorities around access to quality early learning opportunities for all Allegheny County children and families.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Supports the Birth to Five Manager in ensuring the coordination and alignment of DCI’s Birth to Five initiatives and activities with DCI’s goals and strategic plans across sectors.
  • Assists in coordinating DCI contracts, including, but not limited to conducting site visits, monitoring and evaluating program implementation, documenting performance trends, and supporting grantees as needed.
  • Conducts research on policies, trends, models, and best practices in early learning at local, state, and national levels.
  • Supports the coordination of Allegheny County data collection and mapping across the Birth to Five sector for the purposes of promoting equitable access to high-quality early learning programming, planning, and coordination.
  • Engages with community members and represents DCI in public settings while promoting the achievement of the Department’s mission and goals.
  • Fosters and coordinates new ideas and concepts for early learning programming; identifies materials and resources to supplement or expand existing early learning programming and initiatives.
  • Champions continuous quality improvement efforts both for DCI programming and for the broader Birth to Five sector.
  • Performs other duties related to the overall goals of DCI as requested/required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Allegheny County’s early learning landscape for children, families, and program providers.
  • Early childhood development, early care and education, policy, advocacy, and/or equitable systems change.
  • Allegheny County’s early care and education sector are preferred.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.

Ability to:

  • Learn about the full range of programs, services, policies, and issues that impact Allegheny County’s children and their families.
  • Interact professionally with a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to DCI staff, partner agencies, children and youth, family members, community partners, and providers.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member, dedicated to motivating and educating others.
  • Demonstrate commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and cultural responsiveness in early learning systems building.
  • Work across disciplines, departments, and programs.
  • Communicate clearly and persuasively both orally and in writing.
  • Occasionally work outside standard business hours.
  • Ability to travel within Allegheny County as required.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
