Position Title: Assistant Director of Nursing

Salary: $103,434.00 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience including experience scheduling, staffing or supervising nurses and/or other health services staff.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

 

Must have current CPR/BLS certification at time of appointment. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant. 

 

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing oversee an assigned shift within the Medical Unit of the Allegheny County Jail. Incumbents are responsible for scheduling, orienting, training, supervising, and evaluating the nursing and ancillary health services staff on their assigned shifts. Additionally, Assistant Directors of Nursing coordinate and administer healthcare for incarcerated individuals. This role offers a compressed schedule of 12-hour shifts with coverage opportunities for current shifts, including: 5:00AM-5:00PM, 7:00AM-07:00PM, 5:00PM- 5:00AM, and 7:00PM- 7:00AM (subject to change).



Overview:


Duties:

  • Assists the Director of Nursing in the management and evaluation of nursing care delivery at the Allegheny County Jail; ensures that nursing practice complies with established nursing standards.
  • Oversees, evaluates, coordinates, and appropriately administers all nursing-related processes and procedures to ensure quality nursing care that promotes, maintains, and restores the well-being of all incarcerated individuals/patients.
  • In charge of the assignment, reassignment, and scheduling of staff nurses and other health services personnel to cover all areas during assigned shifts; develops and monitors work schedules and provides coverage to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
  • Manages and directs staff in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing quality care.
  • Counsels and disciplines employees who violate established policies/procedures.
  • Receives and provides shift reports to ensure continuity of care and to disseminate pertinent information necessary to the functioning of the oncoming shift.
  • Coordinates and conducts ongoing required CPR/First Aid training of staff on shift.
  • Works as a staff nurse when necessary.
  • Ensures nursing procedures are followed accurately and timely and that medical supplies and equipment are readily available and properly maintained.
  • Monitors medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that they are properly administered.
  • Performs all aspects of general and specialized nursing care in the treatment of ill incarcerated individuals/patients.
  • Prepares necessary reports and audits for the Quality Assurance program.
  • Performs other related duties as requested/required.

  • Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
  • Work shifts in a 24/7 facility.
  • Ensure accountability 24 hours/day, 7 days per week.
  • Attend seminars, workshops, and meetings as needed.

Residency: Not required to live in Allegheny County
