Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent AND two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Must be able to meet one (1) of the thirteen (13) tracts of eligibility for Nursing Home Administrator prior to appointment.

 Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Healthcare or Business Administration AND one (1) year of supervisory experience.

 

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Regional Center Administrator, the Administrator in Training (AIT) provides hands-on assistance in Long-Term Care leadership with the management of daily operations, regulatory compliance, and staff development. The AIT position is designed for individuals pursuing a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) license under the guidance of an experienced Administrator. AIT candidates must meet the minimum regulatory requirements for licensure in their state of intended residence.



Overview:

This is a unique and intensive on-the-job training program designed for individuals seeking initial licensure as a Skilled Nursing Home Administrator and a career as a health care executive. The AIT Program is a full-time, multi-month program in which the AIT obtains practical on-the-job training in a nursing home environment under the direct supervision of an experienced Administrator/mentor. The training program includes rotation through the various departments and duties in a skilled nursing or assisted living facility, education on the interrelationships of the facility with outside parties and government agencies (such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), and a study of regulations and requirements associated with the operation of a skilled nursing facility.


Duties:

  • Observes daily operations of the facility to ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards.
  • Supervises staff members, including caregiving teams and support personnel, ensuring effective team management and resident safety.
  • Reviews and assists in analyzing budgeting and financial management tasks related to department operations.
  • Coordinates with social work teams to address resident needs and family communication.
  • Helps maintain regulatory documentation, resident records, and compliance reports.
  • Engages in community outreach and represents the facility at events as needed.
  • Provides feedback and makes recommendations regarding quality assurance initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Works with HR, recreational therapy, and social services to cultivate an emotional and physical environment conducive to the well-being of residents and staff.
  • Reinforces facility policies and ensures quality care services are delivered consistently.
  • Assists in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding qualified staff to meet facility objectives.
  • Monitors accounts receivable and works with third-party payers to support cash flow.
  • Reviews profit loss reports to assess supplies and inventory.
  • Performs daily rounds to ensure cleanliness, safety, and overall facility appearance.
  • Facilitates day-to-day operations, including activities, meal service, payroll, and resident admissions.
  • Handles admission inquiries and fields electronic referral admissions.
  • Analyzes complaints and takes corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Implements, trains, and monitors personnel policies and procedures.
  • Promotes positive public relations with community groups.
  • Ensures compliance with fire, disaster, safety, infection control, and evacuation policies.
  • Completes all AIT program requirements under the mentorship of a licensed Administrator.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Facility Administrator.
