Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year experience in administrative services.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Executive Administrative Assistant, this position will be responsible for providing secretarial services to all morgue operations personnel including the pathologists and administrative staff.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Maintains an organized filing system of paper and electronic documents relating to the Office of the Medical Examiner.
  • Maintains the chain of custody in the maintenance and transfer of evidence and documentation (including but not limited to photographs, case reports, death certificates, and microscope slides).
  • Performs secretarial duties for pathologists and administrative staff, as required.
  • Answers telephones and records messages.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic accounting and business principles.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Conflict de-escalation.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office products.

Ability to:

  • Perform transcription and type documents quickly and accurately.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively and professionally with internal stakeholders, medical staff, police, visitors, etc.
  • Display sensitivity and empathy when interacting with grieving families.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously within a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
