Minimum Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years working within a correctional facility, including two (2) years of experience supervising staff.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Education may not be substituted for supervisory or management experience.
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have ACT 33/34 clearance prior to appointment. Must be able to obtain and maintain NCIC clearance for the duration of employment.

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Major of Unit Management, the Unit Manager provides oversight, coordination, planning, and support to the housing unit. The Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring that the housing unit runs efficiently and that the needs of incarcerated individuals are being met. The incumbent frequently coordinates with all departments in the jail to provide support utilizing an interdisciplinary, resolution-focused approach. The expected work schedule is Monday through Friday. However, schedules must be flexible to meet the needs of the unit. Evening and weekend work may be required when additional support is needed.
Overview:
Duties:
- Plans, coordinates, and directs the security and treatment program within designated housing units; Participates in interdisciplinary working groups (i.e. healthcare, caseworkers, re-entry, programing) for overall operations of the unit.
- Consults with higher-level staff to review reports, proposals, and operations of the unit to prioritize projects and workloads.
- Supervises and evaluates employees assigned to the housing unit, including monitoring and evaluating the work of self and others. Supervisory duties are assigned by the Major of Unit Management.
- Evaluates security operations on the housing unit.
- Ensures housekeeping plans are developed and posted and that all required postings are accessible to the incarcerated population (PREA, new procedures, commissary schedules etc.).
- Ensures those with language barriers and/or hearing impairments have access to interpretation services.
- Conducts daily rounds on each unit and ensures that all required forms are on the housing unit and that the forms are collected (grievances, Jail Liaison Forms, medical requests etc.).
- Completes grievance investigations for those assigned to the housing unit and provides follow-up to the incarcerated person regarding resolutions.
- Addresses day-to-day concerns of unit staff and provides feedback to unit staff.
- Actively works to resolve complaints from the incarcerated population.
- Prepares utilization/monitoring reports and additional data or reports as needed.
- Assists the Major of Unit Management with the development and implementation of policies and procedures; Implements improvements that will support both the incarcerated individual and employees.
- Manages facility service requests to ensure submission and follow-up of work orders through resolution.
- Participates in weekly and monthly Program Review Committee (PRC) meetings for incarcerated individuals on the housing unit. Unit managers may be assigned to chair PRC meetings as directed by the Major of Unit Management.
- Reviews use of force reports and videos and makes recommendations, implementing process improvement strategies in collaboration with the Major of Unit Management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
