Position Title: Special Assistant to the Treasurer

Salary: $60,000.00 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Communications, or a related field AND at least two (2) years of experience in government, executive support, community relations, or a similar role, or
  • ?An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Position Summary:

The Special Assistant to the Treasurer is an operational support role, responsible for ensuring the Treasurer is well prepared, informed, and strategically supported during external engagements. This role involves attending public events and meetings, managing logistics and schedules, preparing detailed briefing materials, and facilitating follow-up correspondence. The Special Assistant serves as a liaison between the Treasurer and external stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and members of the public. The Special Assistant also supports public affairs efforts through maintaining strategic partnerships and promotion of the Treasurer’s initiatives through thoughtful engagement and message alignment.

Duties:

Event and Meeting Support:

  • Accompany the Treasurer to external events and internal meetings (non-technical).
  • Take detailed notes during events and meetings, identifying attendees, key takeaways, commitments, and follow-up actions.
  • Draft follow-up correspondence with specific references to conversations or commitments made.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Administrative Assistant to ensure the Treasurer’s calendar is current and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Support the planning and execution of community events, press conferences, and public announcements where the Treasurer will be present.
  • Assist with the creation and drafting of Social Media content for the Treasurer’s public appearances.

 Briefing and Preparation:

  • Prepare briefing materials for events and meetings, including stakeholder bios, organizational background, information related to the county’s alignment, and staffing notes.
  • Provide itineraries and logistical details in advance of appearances or engagements.
  • Assist in developing and executing messaging strategies that reflect the Treasurer’s priorities and values.
  • Monitor the calendar for scheduling conflicts, propose solutions, and ensure alignment across departments and external partners.
  • Ensure consistent branding and language across prepared materials in collaboration with the Public Relations and Digital Media Coordinator.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as a professional representative of the Treasurer in interactions with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with government officials, civic leaders, nonprofit partners, and constituents.
  • Track and facilitate follow-up on commitments made during engagements.

 Scheduling and Coordination:

  • Work with the Executive Administrative Assistant to oversee daily scheduling logistics, including travel time, event pacing, and accessibility needs.
  • Flag potential issues or competing priorities and proactively resolve conflicts.
  • Ensure materials and preparation needs for each event or meeting are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for the Treasurer to participate in relevant panels, interviews, or other public events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Local government, political environments, and stakeholder landscapes.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office Suite 

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Work under pressure, maintain discretion, and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and comply with all applicable driving laws and safety regulations.
  • Lift up to 35 lbs.
