$60,000- $65,000 per year commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Nursing, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Epidemiology, or a related field AND three (3) years of experience in infection control or a related field (e.g., communicable diseases, SARS patient safety).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Infectious Disease, the Infectious Disease Coordinator supports all infectious control activities to prevent and control infections within the Allegheny County Jail in collaboration with Public Health RNs. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for follow-up care connections post-release from the correctional facility to the community. Work is performed in accordance with Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing correctional facilities and infection control reporting requirements.
Overview:
Duties:
- Performs data entry documenting results, vaccine verifications, etc., in electronic health records, as required by county and state health departments and other governing bodies.
- Communicates results and vaccine efforts to county and state health departments and other governing bodies.
- Completes continuation of care upon release to include collaboration with local agencies and connections to follow-up care.
- Performs PA PIERS and PA NEDSS tracking and data entry.
- Oversees and trains workers within the bio-hazard program.
- Ensures TB Mantoux testing and record keeping are maintained and updated.
- Assists with infectious disease mitigation efforts.
- Presents staff training and education sessions on infection control and prevention, standard precautions, PPE, and hepatitis vaccinations, etc.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals. administrators. jail medical unit managers and local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as necessary.
- Coordinates with community treatment team providers and the ACJ healthcare team to ensure patient care coordination from admission through discharge.
- Facilitates patient education related to infectious diseases, including prevention and treatment.
- Performs other related duties as required or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- HIPAA, CDC, and OSHA guidelines.
- Federal and State regulations governing correctional facilities and infection control issues.
- Standard precautions regarding blood/body fluids and clean-up procedures.
- Infectious diseases, particularly those common to correctional facilities.
Skill in:
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access) and other relevant software.
- Electronic Healthcare Records.
Ability to:
- Interact with incarcerated individuals with a sensitivity and understanding of a specific population's needs.
- Interpret and explain statistical data and information regarding infection issues.
- Communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, nursing and medical staff, public officials, and the general public.
- Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
- Be a consistent and dependable team member.
- Work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Not required to live in Allegheny County
