Minimum Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and current Pennsylvania nursing licensure (Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse) AND two (2) years of experience in an inpatient/residential treatment setting, specifically relating to detoxification, medications for opioid use disorder, and harm reduction approaches.
- Experience working in a correctional facility is preferred.
Incumbents will be required to maintain current Pennsylvania nursing licensure. Must have current CPR/BLS certification prior to appointment. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing and Director of Substance Use Programs, the Substance Use Recovery Nurse Coordinator supervises, directs, and coordinates detoxification services as well as the continuation of medication-assisted treatments (i.e. buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, etc.) with extensive collaboration with the Medical Director and other Advanced Practitioners. Clinical services are performed in accordance with Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern correctional facilities and infection control reporting requirements.

Clinical Duties:
- Assesses the patient population, utilizing clinical withdrawal scales, and monitors their stability and progress.
- Determine whether other services, including, but not limited to, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health, etc., need consultation or referral based upon assessment.
- Conducts medication passes of detoxification and/or opioid replacement therapies (i.e. buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone).
- Consults directly with the Substance Use department and Discharge and Release Center for individuals who will be re-integrated into the community.
- Works in the intake department to provide initial assessments to the substance-using population.
- Collaborates with staff in the medical housing unit for substance-using patients with a higher level of acuity.
Administrative Functions:
- Reviews and analyzes literature recommending best practices and consults with the Assistant Directors of Nursing on additional follow-up activities.
- Develops training programs for skills transfer and education to other healthcare employees with the collaboration of the Staffing Educator.
- Serves as a liaison with other community stakeholder programs to ensure continuous partnership.
- Analyzes and tracks trends within the patient population to inform the augmentation and development of programs and services.
- Evaluates and analyzes the role of substances in medical emergencies or other sentinel events.
- Develops policies and procedures for the withdrawing patients in collaboration with the Medical Director.
- Monitors and observes detoxification practices and procedures by staff to ensure that they follow standard operating procedures involved in best practices.
- Participates in meetings with surveyors and inspectors and responds to inquiries as needed.
- Assists in development of plans to address any opportunities for progression, as identified during the survey process.
- Participates in conferences, including discharge conferences as requested, to address specific problems within the substance-using patient.
- Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, administrators, healthcare department representatives, and local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required or requested.
