Salary: $18.4747 per hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent AND one (1) year of experience in inventory, warehouse operations, purchasing, scheduling or other related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

 

A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.

 

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Inventory Control Manager, the Warehouse Clerk searches and inspects all items that enter the Supply/Warehouse area. Incumbent is responsible for accounting, receiving, storing, and issuing materials as well as maintaining inventory. The Warehouse clerk also coordinates the work of incarcerated individuals assigned to work within the Supply/Warehouse area. 



Overview:


Duties:

  • Maintains a strict inventory of all items, including chemicals that enter and exit the Allegheny County Jail (ACJ).
  • Orders all items, such as mattresses, sheets, chemicals, etc. that are needed at the ACJ.
  • Ensures that all ACJ vehicles are scheduled for maintenance and maintains an accurate log of fuel and mileage, as well as employees authorized to operate a county vehicle.
  • Travels to various vendors and county facilities to pick-up/deliver equipment/supplies.
  • Checks the working conditions of all security equipment at the beginning of each shift to ensure that they are in working condition.
  • May use a forklift and/or other equipment necessary to place received goods in their proper and defined storage locations.
  • Monitors the work of all incarcerated individual workers to ensure the effective operations of the Supply Warehouse in accordance with rules and regulations, PA 37, and ACA standards.
  • Ensures that all inmate workers are properly dressed and do not have any personal property in their possession when reporting to their assigned work detail.
  • Ensures that all areas of the Supply/Warehouse are secured at all times.
  • Notifies the ground Floor Control personnel of any inmates leaving the Supply area and their destination. 
  • Keeps an updated list of all workers assigned to the area. 
  • Performs related tasks and duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Inventory management principles, practices and procedures.
  • Safety standards required in warehouse operations.
  • PA Title 37 and the American Correctional Association standards.
  • Allegheny County Jail rules and regulations.
  • Heavy machinery.
  • General office equipment & operation (Copier, Fax, PC, etc.).

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office products.

Ability to:

  • Manage and direct incarcerated individuals.
  • Learn and effectively utilize automated inventory management and other software and/or computerized systems as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Perform physical labor that requires frequent walking, bending, standing, and lifting of up to 40lbs.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain records in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Travel to a variety of Allegheny County locations.
  • Obtain certification to operate heavy machinery as required.

Residency: Not required to live in Allegheny County
