Position Title: Clinical Behavioral Health Supervisor

Salary: $82,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field AND Five (5) years of clinical experience diagnosing and treating behavioral and psychiatric conditions. One (1) year of demonstrated managerial and/or staff supervisor experience is also required.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) certification is required.


Must show proof of current CPR/BLS certification prior to appointment. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant. 

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

The Clinical Behavioral Health Supervisor reports directly to the Deputy Health Service Administrator – Behavioral Health and works collaboratively with Director of Mental Health, Director of Substance Use, and other divisions within the Health Services Department at the Allegheny County Jail. The incumbent provides direct therapeutic services to the incarcerated population including but not limited to assessment, screening, individual therapy, group therapy, treatment planning, case management, and referral, as well as supervises clinical work being provided by Therapists and/or student interns.  



Overview:


Duties:

  • Manages daily work of Therapists and performs annual performance reviews.
  • Works directly with mental health and substance use staff, providing supervision/support for program staff.
  • Helps develop and manage relevant programming including identifying and managing barriers to treatment in collaboration with Directors.
  • Provides operational support by participating in the recruitment process for new employees, coordinating the flow of new admissions, and supervising the program's daily clinical activities as instructed. This may include but is not limited to, the oversight of clinician caseload management, treatment group census, treatment plan quality, and peer review.
  • Alerts management of issues by meeting regularly with the Director to review cases and reviewing any clinical or staff problems with the Director.
  • Participates in the program's quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
  • Assumes leadership in the Director's absence to ensure appropriate patient care, continuity of service delivery, and patient safety, as instructed.
  • Provides oversight and, as appropriate, conducts/documents assessments, creates treatment plans, assesses changing needs of patients, and provides individual and group therapy.
  • Educates and advocates for patients to enhance their ability to make informed decisions regarding their care.
  • Utilizes the modalities of crisis intervention, brief goal-directed therapy, or other therapeutic counseling methods.
  • Provides accurate, timely, and appropriate documentation of all social work interventions in the medical record per regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Completes a psychosocial assessment that includes social, economic, cultural, and behavioral factors, history of child, elder, or domestic abuse, prior psychiatric or substance abuse treatment, and all other available resources.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Psychiatric evaluation and assessment and the application of current DSM diagnostic criteria are required.
  • Techniques and best practices of mental health treatment and services.
  • Incarcerated populations, recidivism, and service engagement.
  • Treatment processes and the laws and regulations that govern correctional care and treatment.

Skill in:

  • Trauma-informed therapeutic approaches, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other research-based efficacious modalities.
  • Microsoft Office products (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)

Ability to:

  • Identify, assess, counsel, and effectively intervene with medically and psychosocially complex patients.
  • Follow the guidelines of the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors.

Residency: Not required to live in Allegheny County
