Position Title: Pre-Arraignment Diversion Coordinator

Salary: $55,000-$60,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of experience in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

 

Must be 18 years of age or older. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

The Pre-Arraignment Diversion Coordinator is responsible for assessing individuals entering the jail to determine their incarceration needs and identify programming and resources that would be effective in lieu of incarceration. The incumbent provides the arraignment Judge with a recommendation for jail diversion alternatives. The Pre-Arraignment Diversion Coordinator reports to the Residential Placement Manager and collaborates with the Office of the Public Defender, Department of Human Services, Pretrial Services, Probation, Pittsburgh Municipal Court Judges, and staff.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Assesses new detainees entering the jail to determine risk factors and special needs that impact incarceration.
  • Identifies individual needs related to physical health, mental health, behavioral health, substance use, and intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Prepares reports summarizing an individual's needs and incarceration risk factors.
  • Develops a release plan detailing how an individual's needs could be served through community providers.
  • Fosters and maintains community provider partnerships and makes service referrals to appropriate community providers.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Jail and Allegheny County Court of Common Please, the Office of the Public Defender, Department of Human Services, Pretrial Services, Probation, and Magisterial Judges.
  • Prepares utilization and monitoring reports.
  • Assists department leadership with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Residency: Not required to live in Allegheny County
