Position Title: Recreation Facility Manager

Salary: $38,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma and two (2) years of recreation facility management experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is acceptable.

The following certifications are preferred prior to hiring and required to be obtained within three (3) months of hire:

Certified Pool Operator

CPR and First Aid

Servsafe Manager

Responsible Alcohol Management Procedures Manager

PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint clearances

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director and Recreation Supervisor of the Allegheny County Department of Parks, this position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the Allegheny County Parks. This position is located in the Southern Region and is responsible for the preparation, operation, and evaluation of the regional recreation facilities that are assigned. 



Overview:

Allegheny County, with a population of approximately 1.3 million, is the second largest county in the State of Pennsylvania. The County Parks Department sustains and enhances the growth and quality of a diverse group of well-managed and financially sound regional assets. The large list of diverse facilities and open space in the 12,044 acres contained in our parks system encourages the involvement of people of all ages through park programs, leagues, and volunteering opportunities. The Parks system encompasses a variety of activities and amenities including three wave pools, one swimming pool, ski slopes, snow tubing, two ice rinks, and over 400 rental facilities. The County Parks System strives to be one of the top amenities in the County, by retaining and attracting residents and improving the overall quality of life for our region.


Duties:

  • Manages employees assigned to respective facility and instructs them of their duties and responsibilities of their position; creates staff schedules.
  • Oversees and manages seasonal facilities (ice rink, pool, and golf course), concession stands; instructs employees in the duties and responsibilities of their position.
  • Hires, processes, and trains seasonal employees for work in various park facilities.
  • Strategically works variable hours including evening, weekends, holidays, and work on-site during programs and special events to ensure success and safety.
  • Assists other park supervisors and staff with training on Active Net.
  • Organizes and schedules routine maintenance.
  • Ensures that facilities are in compliance with all regulations.
  • Reports and clarifies any issues, problems, and resolutions to the downtown Administrative Office
  • Coordinates general upkeep of park buildings and facilities with other county departments and outside contractors.
  • Coordinates purchasing of supplies needed for facilities while ensuring strict adherence to County purchasing policies.
  • Prepares facilities for opening/closing of their respective seasons and conducts walkthroughs with appropriate staff.
  • Solves problems that arise within the authority given.
  • Performs related work as assigned by supervisors or directors. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Allegheny County Parks policies and procedures
  • Emergency procedures – First Aid and CPR

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to:

  • Supervise employees engaged in tasks required in the operation of the facilities.
  • Communicate professionally both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Demonstrate reliability and dependability in the workplace.
  • Develop team leadership and management skills.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of recreational equipment and supplies.
