Position Title: Accountant

Salary: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration AND a minimum of three (3) years of experience in accounting and report presentation, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the primary day-to-day functions of planning and performing the financial activities of the Allegheny County Treasurer’s Office Fiscal Department and other areas as needed. This includes the responsibility for the cash management, accounting, financial forecasting, data analysis, and report preparation as well as the analysis of audits.



Overview:

The Office of the Treasurer strives to provide excellent customer service to the citizens of Allegheny County while fulfilling the duties and responsibilities mandated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Home Rule Charter of Allegheny County, with efficiency, productivity, and transparency.


Duties:

  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reports for various divisions of the Treasurer’s Office.
  • Originates semi-annual and annual reports for various external offices within Allegheny County.
  • Establishes working relationships with Fiscal Staff of various County Departments.
  • Monitors and reconciles all Banking Analysis Fees billings and statements.
  • Assists Fiscal Manager in the preparation of the Operating Budget.
  • Acts as a backup for various Fiscal Department obligations.
  • Initiates projects directed by the Fiscal Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic Accounting Procedures and Principles.
  • Accounting Systems (JD Edwards a plus) and governmental accounting.
  • Financial statements, general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close process.

Skill in:

  • Attention to detail in numbers and quantitative skills.
  • Linking data between excel files and familiarity with excel formulas, in particular the SumiF, SumProduct, and VLoookup formulas.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products.

Ability to:

  • Accurately prepare reports and forms.
  • Perform statistical analysis.
  • Lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Use a computer and other basic office equipment.
