Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience driving various commercial vehicles.
- PA Class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.
- Applicants must maintain the required PA Driver’s License throughout employment.
- A copy of the license must be included with the application.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Communications and Transportation Manager, the incumbent in this position operates a motor vehicle for transporting people and materials. This position operates vans, pick-up trucks, and buses, and may involve the use of a manual transmission. Work is performed in accordance with Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This position may be required to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Overview:
As required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Allegheny County is required to conduct an inquiry with the FMCSA Clearinghouse, which contains information about drivers with commercial driver’s licenses (CDL Drivers) who are covered by the FMCSA’s drug and alcohol program. This also includes drivers with commercial learner’s permits. Duties:
- Operates automobiles, heavy trucks, and other vehicles in transporting persons and materials to and from various Kane Regional centers (appointments, activities, other county offices).
- Operates snow removal equipment (e.g., spreaders, plows, etc.)
- Follows all applicable laws and regulations regarding the operation and maintenance of vehicles.
- Transports residents as needed and remains with residents at special events.
- Ensures the health and safety of residents and staff and establishes an environment conducive to health and safety.
- Delivers supplies, materials, and equipment to Kane Regional Centers and County offices, facilities, and institutions.
- Picks up and transports test samples for examination.
- Loads and unloads residents into vans and buses.
- Performs pre- and post-checks of vehicles and maintains accurate documentation.
- Reports issues, mechanical or otherwise, of vehicles to the Communications and Transportation Manager.
- Maintains vehicles in a clean and operable manner.
- Perform manual work, including loading, unloading, and handling of materials as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- County highways and road systems.
- Traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Automotive equipment and the methods used in servicing and making minor repairs and adjustments to such equipment.
- Infection control policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Ability to:
- Operate all County vans, pick-up trucks, or buses, safely and efficiently in traffic and in adverse climate conditions; must be able to utilize both automatic and manual transmissions
- Work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally liable people within a long-term care facility.
- Participate in all life safety and emergency drills and training as necessary.
- Be a supportive team member and work as part of a team.
- Move intermittently throughout the workday (Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting, and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position).
- Work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays as necessary.
