Minimum Requirements:
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania AND three (3) years of experience teaching and developing staff in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), Long-Term Care Facility, or other Health Care facility.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Regional Center Administrator, the incumbent in this position plans, develops, and directs in-service educational programs. Work is performed in accordance with the Professional Nursing Law, and Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern long-term care facilities.

Duties:
- Conducts needs analysis studies to determine training needs within the organization.
- Confers with management to gain specific information on work situations and to design training programs for employees to better understand changes in policies, procedures, regulations, and technologies.
- Formulates teaching outlines and determines instructional methods, such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, workshops, and meetings.
- Conducts and coordinates training sessions covering specified areas such as on-the-job training, externship programs, customer service practices, health and safety requirements, public relations, promotional development, re-training displaced workers, and leadership.
- Develops tests or evaluation procedures to be used at the completion of training; develops teaching aids (i.e., handbooks, demonstration models, multi-visual aids, computer tutorial aids, etc.).
- Completes competencies on all nursing staff at orientation, according to their scope of practice.
- Secures, develops, and maintains records and reports pertaining to in-service and mandatory educational programs.
- Performs other duties within all the Kane Centers as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Nursing and medical practices and procedures.
- Laws, regulations, and guidelines that govern Long-Term Care and CMS.
- Training and teaching principles and practices.
Skill in:
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Electronic health records.
- Design, development, and delivery of training plans and curriculum.
Ability to:
- Prepare and administer medication and perform treatments.
- Develop and present training materials in a group setting using a variety of media (i.e., PowerPoint, overheads, video, etc.).
- Teach and present to adult learners.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Promote and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, staff, and the community.
- Maintain training reports and instructional materials.
- Determine learning needs and abilities.
- Evaluate staff performance and implement, in conjunction with managers and supervisors, corrective plans where they are needed.
- Perform physical tasks associated with resident care, such as lifting residents into/out of beds.
