Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or it’s equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in cash handling, teller work, or customer service in a financial, retail, or government setting is preferred,

This is a seasonal, fixed term position expected to last between 4 and 6 months. This position will not exceed six months and will not result in placement into a permanent role.

Position Summary:

The Cashier is responsible for processing a wide range of financial transactions for the Treasurer’s Office, including county tax payments, licensing fees, and departmental collections. This position ensures accurate receipting, recording and daily balancing of all funds handled. The cashier also provides customer service to the public by offering general information regarding county operations and Treasurer’s Office procedures. Work involves handling cash payouts for court-related functions, maintaining accurate documentation and assisting office staff as needed to support efficient departmental operations. This is a seasonal, fixed term position expected to last between 4 and 6 months. This position will not exceed six months and will not result in placement into a permanent role.

Duties:

  • Processes County real estate tax payments, including regular, senior, delinquent, and partial payments
  • Processes Reports of Collections (ROCs) and records collections of monies received from all county departments for booking and accounting purposes.
  • Handles all cash payouts associated with the Courts, including witness and juror payouts.
  • Provides general information and customer service to the public regarding county operations and Treasurer’s office policies and procedures.
  • Processes licensing transactions such as dog licenses, hunting and fishing licenses, launch permits, sportsman permits, and small games of Chance licenses.
  • Balances all work and cash associated with the assigned drawer/desk daily and prepare totals for Control Cage balancing.
  • Maintains accurate transaction records and ensure compliance with Treasurer’s Office protocols.
  • Aides coworkers, management, and other individuals within the Treasurer’s Office as needed to support daily operations.
  • Cross-trains and provide support in any other union-related duties, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Basic cash-handling procedures
  • Clerical accounting principles
  • Financial recordkeeping 

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office Suite 

Ability to:

  • Accurately process payments, balance a cash drawer, and operate financial or licensing software.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with the public and internal staff.
  • Work cooperatively within the Treasurer’s Office and adapt to new systems, processes, or regulatory requirements.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
