Position Title: Graphic Designer

Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 per year commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Computer Aided Design, Web Design, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, News Media, or related field AND at least two (2) years of professional experience in design and/or branding, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Act 33/34 Clearances are required prior to appointment.

Position Summary:

The Graphic Designer reports to the Lead Graphic Designer and creates a variety of visual media for Allegheny County and its’ departments. This position requires a high level of creativity, as well as excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.



Overview:

The Office of Marketing & Special Events raises public awareness of County services, projects, events, activities and initiatives through proactive marketing, advertising, and social media efforts. The Division is responsible for producing a wide array of high-quality cultural, artistic and special events to enhance the quality of life in Allegheny County.


Duties:

  • Creates a wide range of design materials and media for the county and its’ departments, including but not limited to custom logos, branding materials, infographics, brochures, posters, presentations, flyers, social media content, and reports.
  • Supports the implementation of equity, inclusion, and diversity by incorporating different perspectives and lenses into all media.
  • Works closely with marketing team members, departments, and Public Information Officers across the county to identify and develop design concepts, timelines, and creative ways to incorporate graphic design into the county’s communication and marketing efforts.
  • Communicates, collaborates, and presents design concepts and ideas to departments and requestors.
  • Coordinates the design and production of graphic requests to ensure all projects are completed timely and on brand.
  • Manages timelines, deadlines, and priorities while working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Prepares files for print and submits print requests.
  • Produces equity-centered designs by delivering inclusive materials while considering the needs of disadvantaged audiences. 
  • Performs other related work as requested or required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
  • Layouts, typography, and design principles 
  • ADA-compliant communication principles.
  • Communicating to multilingual and multicultural communities.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office includes Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Ability to:

  • Create visuals and communication materials related to programming assisting the county’s most vulnerable,
  • Bring ideas and brainstorms to visual life through design.
  • Receive feedback and make revisions accordingly.
  • Be creative, detail-oriented and organized.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and articulate technical information in an understandable manner.
  • Develop multilingual materials through coordination with translators and contractors
  • Apply racial equity and accessibility frameworks to creative work.
  • Conduct research on target audiences to better create materials and that is logical and dignified for the people or topic.
  • Make decisions independently.
  • Multi-task and manage changing priorities.
  • Interact well with management and supervisors, co-workers, outside agencies, and the public.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
