Position Title: Website Content Specialist

Salary: $50,000-$55,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • An Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in a related field (i.e. Computer Science, Information Systems, Graphic Design, Web Design, Communications, New Media, etc.) AND two (2) years of website design and/or content management, including knowledge of front-end web design, user experience (UX) design and optimization.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Website Content Manager, the Website Content Specialist is responsible for updating and improving the design and content on county-owned websites to ensure that it is functional, visually pleasing, and accessible. This position is required to make technical and necessary changes to county-owned websites in a timely manner. Responsibilities include updating website content and media, designing and creating new website layouts, maintaining continuity of themes and branding, and coordinating with marketing staff and other departments to enhance marketing efforts on the county website. Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to) installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting application-related software (languages, utility programs, information retrieval access methods, generalized input-output control systems, etc.) on various platforms.



Overview:

The Office of Marketing & Special Events raises public awareness of County services, projects, events, activities and initiatives through proactive marketing, advertising, and social media efforts. The Division is responsible for producing a wide array of high-quality cultural, artistic, and special events to enhance the quality of life in Allegheny County.


Duties:

  • Writes, organizes, and ensures all web content is updated and accurate.
  • Optimizes website performance to improve UX, SEO, design, and content.
  • Wireframes and prototypes landing pages for campaigns and new pages.
  • Ensures that consistent branding is being used across all web pages, applications, and marketing materials.
  • Supports the implementation of equity, inclusion, and diversity by implementing inclusion web design practices, ensuring accessibility for all users, and incorporating different perspectives and lenses into webpages.
  • Develops and conducts A/B testing and/or user testing on landing page campaigns to find the most effective design and layout.
  • Confirms website is responsive across all devices and browsers.
  • Works closely with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Communications, Information Technology, and departments across the county to design and implement new layout ideas and needs.
  • Responds to website requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Conducts ongoing analysis of the website and develops ongoing reports and recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Website Content Accessibility Guidelines.
  • UX/UI best practices.
  • Wireframing and landing page mockups.
  • Inbound marketing strategies.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO).
  • ADA-compliant communication principles.
  • UTMS and tracking.
  • API integrations.

Skill in:

  • HTML, CSS, Modern Web Standards, SQL, JavaScript, and/or PHP.
  • Website analytics tools including Google Analytics and Google Webmaster tools.
  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Content management systems, such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and Magento.

Ability to:

  • Communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, with multilingual and multicultural communities and articulate technical information in an understandable manner.
  • Apply a mobile-first design strategy.
  • Effectively manage time, tasks, deadlines, and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Apply inbound marketing strategies to website development to maximize page visits, engagements, and conversions.
  • Think creatively and be detail-oriented and organized.
  • Optimize website performance and assist in planning the website content strategy.
  • Make decisions independently.
  • Conduct research on target audiences to better create materials that are logical and dignified for the people or topic.
  • Develop webpages that ensure accessibility for all users.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with staff, departments, and external organizations.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
