Position Title: Community Outreach Coordinator - Overdose Prevention

Salary: Hourly: $28.84 || Annual: $60,000.00

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree supplemented by a Master's Degree in public health or a field related to public health.
  • Relevant work experience or education in community outreach, public health education or related fields, with at least 1 year of full-time work experience with youth


Necessary Special Requirement

  • ?Possession of a valid automobile operator's license and the use of an automobile during working hours. You must be able to provide your own transportation to and from the various worksites throughout Allegheny County. You will be required to travel.

Condition of Employment

Allegheny County Civil Service Employees (Non-ACHD)

Regular or probationary employees of County Departments currently in this classification, hired under a State Civil Service System, who apply for this position will not be considered as Open Competitive applicants. Those employees selected for transfer to the Allegheny County Health Department will be considered to have resigned their Civil Service status from the Department in which they are currently working and will be required to complete a probationary period with the Health Department.

Purpose

To establish open competitive and promotional eligible lists for use in making merit system appointments in the Allegheny County Health Department. The list will contain the names of successful candidates ranked in the order of final earned ratings. The list will be in effect for one (1) year unless previously exhausted or superseded.

In the ranking, open competitive applicants qualifying for Veteran’s Preference receive an additional ten points on the final earned rating. Form DD-214 must be attached to the application form for consideration for Veteran’s Preference. Determination of Veteran’s Preference is made in accordance with State Civil Service Policy.

Position Summary:

This is a full-time position with the Allegheny County Health Department. The community outreach coordinator will provide education and resources to communities in Allegheny county that have been affected by the overdose crisis. This role will focus on teaching youth and related organizations, such as schools, about overdose and substance use prevention.

Duties:

  • Training and educating youth on Narcan administration and other overdose prevention strategies
  • Educating youth about substance use in adolescence and evidence-based approaches to prevent substance use in adolescence
  • Developing educational materials and presentations related to overdose and substance use prevention
  • Building relationships with grade 6 – 12 schools and organizations focused on youth, and working with them to identify ways to support those negatively impacted by substance use and addiction in their community. 
  • Organizing and coordinating education in schools
  • Using data to prioritize work in communities with the greatest need
  • Supporting community based Narcan distribution and tracking overdose reversal, as needed 
  • Representing ACHD at meetings with partners and tabling at community events 
  • Assisting with administrative tasks, such as creating newsletters, managing spreadsheets, updating the community calendar, etc.
  • Responds to emergencies as assigned by the Health Department. 
  • Performs other duties as required or requested.
