Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent AND one (1) year of related experience performing administrative/clerical duties in an office setting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician and/or medical records experience preferred.
Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant. Must have CPR/BLS certification at time of appointment.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Records Clerk is responsible for completing a broad range of clerical duties to assist the Allegheny County Jail Medical Unit in running efficiently and effectively. These duties include the organization, handling, and preservation of all medical records. This position will be assigned to the evening shift, with working hours between 2pm-10pm.

Duties:
- Maintains and organizes all medical records, creating new records, repairing damaged documents, and combining medical records from previous incarcerations.
- Prepares charts ensuring proper assembly of files before and after release of records.
- Ensures a health record is maintained for each incarcerated individual in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Prepares medical records for audits and reviews.
- Responds as appropriate to correspondence related to medical records.
- Compiles and maintains data regarding sick calls, intake, clinics, etc.
- Schedules appointments for incarcerated individuals requiring the services of clinics or outside agencies.
- Coordinates with correctional staff as needed to facilitate the transfer of incarcerated individuals for medical appointments within the facility.
- Communicates with the appropriate supervisors regarding issues or concerns with medical record keeping.
- Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Policies and procedures associated with medical record documentation.
- Regulations governing patient confidentiality.
- Medical terminology.
Skill in:
- Microsoft Office products.
- Electronic Health Records preferred.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions.
- Interact professionally with medical staff, nursing personnel, incarcerated individuals, etc.
- Read and interpret medical records and reports and provide or extract information.
- Make independent decisions when warranted.
- Assist in planning, organizing, developing, implementing, and interpreting programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing quality care.
- Adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
- Work shifts in a 24/7 facility.

Not required to live in Allegheny County
