Minimum Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and current Pennsylvania RN licensure AND two (2) years of nursing experience including experience scheduling, staffing, or supervising nurses and/or other health services staff.
Must have current CPR/BLS certification at time of appointment. Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing oversee an assigned shift within the Medical Unit of the Allegheny County Jail. Incumbents are responsible for scheduling, orienting, training, supervising, and evaluating the nursing and ancillary health services staff on their assigned shifts. Additionally, Assistant Directors of Nursing coordinate and administer the health-related care of incarcerated individuals. This role offers a compressed schedule of 12-hour shifts with coverage opportunities for current shifts (subject to change) 0500-1700 hours and 1700-0500 hours.

Duties:
- Assists in the management and evaluation of nursing care delivery at the Allegheny County Jail ensuring practices comply with established nursing standards.
- Oversees, evaluates, coordinates, and appropriately administers all nursing-related processes and procedures to ensure quality nursing care that promotes, maintains, and restores the comprehensive overall health of all patients.
- Develops and monitors work schedules and facilitates the assignment, reassignment, and scheduling of staff nurses and other health services personnel to cover all areas during assigned shifts, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
- Manages and directs staff in the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing quality care.
- Counsels and disciplines employees who violate established policies/procedures.
- Receives and provides shift reports to ensure continuity of care and to disseminate pertinent information necessary to the functioning of oncoming shift.
- Coordinates and conducts ongoing required CPR/First Aid training of staff on shift.
- Works as a staff nurse when necessary.
- Ensures nursing procedures are followed accurately and timely and that medical supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained.
- Monitors medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that they are properly administered.
- Performs all aspects of general and specialized nursing care in the treatment of ill patients.
- Participates in the Quality Assurance program and performs/prepares necessary audits and reports.
- Maintains accurate and confidential records.
- Performs other related duties as requested/required.
