Position Title: Alternative Housing Coordinator

Salary: $45,000-$50,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years of criminal justice experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. Must maintain a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and access to a vehicle.


Act 33/34 clearances are required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant. It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment


Position Summary:

The Alternative Housing Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with correctional personnel, contracted agencies, the courts, and other Allegheny County departments on the processes of identifying, assessing, and ensuring the transfer of eligible Allegheny County Jail incarcerated individuals to contracted alternative housing facilities. The Alternative Housing Coordinator reports to the Residential Placement Manager.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Assists with the implementation of strategies put forth by the Jail Administration and ensures compliance with all policies pertaining to alternative housing.
  • Coordinates and monitors the referral clearance process for incarcerated individuals pending transfer to alternative housing.
  • Discusses alternative housing questions or concerns with incarcerated individuals in assigned housing units and responds in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assists the Residential Placement Manager with facility inspections and site visits and develops related reports.
  • Works directly with alternative housing providers to provide on-site support, monitor resident’s progress, and resolve any issues or grievances brought forth by residents in collaboration with provider staff.
  • Acts as a liaison between the jail and pre-trial services, adult probation, and contracted alternative housing providers.
  • Conducts periodic training as needed for contracted providers.
  • Prepares necessary documentation for submission to the courts and periodically attends specialty court hearings.
  • Utilizes databases to support the processing and monitoring of referrals and placements.
  • Monitors provider use of data reporting systems to ensure information is entered in accordance with policies.
  • Handles all alternative housing functions in the manager’s absence and takes direction from the Assistant Deputy Warden.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • PA Title 37 regulations.
  • Correctional security policies.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office.

  • Work respectfully with individuals in or impacted by the criminal justice system.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships while working on a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Learn County-specific computer systems and databases.

Residency: Not required to live in Allegheny County
