Position Title: Manager, Public Affairs - Office of Equity and Engagement

Salary: $68,000 - $73,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma and seven years of marketing communication experience, or
  • Bachelor’s degree Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, or a related field and three (3) years of marketing communication experience, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training is acceptable.

Position Summary:

The Manager, Public Affairs, Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Equity and Engagement (OEE), under the general supervision of the Assistant Deputy Director, Office of Equity and Engagement (OEE), works closely with DHS leadership, Office Directors, subject matter experts, staff and others in the development, coordination, and dissemination of public information; management of community engagement activities; and communications with internal audiences.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Supervises junior communications professionals and outside agencies.
  • Participates in discussions about communications team strategies, tactics, and operations.
  • Contributes to the development and execution of a proactive, creative, and forceful communications strategy.
  • Participates in DHS messaging and branding strategies, development, and execution.
  • Creates content, managing the process from ideation to approvals to dissemination, in order to advance DHS messaging and deliver it to the public, key stakeholder groups, and internal audiences using multiple mediums, including print and electronic formats, and owned, earned, shared, and paid media channels.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with similarly interested constituencies and organizations, including partner organizations, coalitions, foundations, and associations throughout the county, for the purposes of advancing DHS programs and services.
  • Contributes to the development of positive media relationships for the purposes of effectively disseminating public information.

  • Microsoft Office suite
  • Communications technologies.

  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing to influence multiple diverse audiences across a variety of mediums.
  • Achieve project management and public speaking.
  • Utilize analytical and critical thinking.
  • Translate complex concepts into simple and compelling messaging for DHS audiences.
  • Create strong interpersonal relationships with senior leadership, cross functional colleagues, external stakeholder groups, and the media for the purposes of advancing DHS communications goals.
  • Manage multiple simultaneous tasks, projects, and priorities effectively and professionally.
  • Work independently and collaboratively.
  • Approach difficult situations with discretion and grace.
