Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Social Science, Education, Recreation, or related area and one (1) one year of experience in the operation of recreation programs in a health care setting. 

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

The Incumbent organizes, implements, and directs therapeutic recreation programs and activities to meet the physical, intellectual, psychological and social needs of residents. Work is performed in accordance with Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and as directed by the Recreation Therapy Supervisor to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained.



Overview:

The Kane Regional Centers are a seven-day, twenty-four-hour operation. This position may be required to work overtime as determined by management to meet operational needs. The incumbent of this position is also subject to call back during emergency conditions, as determined by management.

Staff members must use reasonable safeguards to protect residents’ health information (RHI), whether verbally, written or through facsimile, from intentional or unintentional use or disclosure.


Duties:

  • Assesses resident needs and interests, plans and develops individualized treatment plans, and evaluates outcomes.
  • Encourages residents to attend and participate in programs providing assistance as needed.
  • Participates in resident care conferences.
  • Seeks family knowledge of resident’s leisure history and preferences, and encourages involvement and support of current recreational goals.
  • Submits vehicle, volunteer, food and Kane Foundation Request forms.
  • Oversees Recreation Aides and volunteers.
  • Documents activities on daily flow sheets, medical record chart notes, MDS’s, Individualized Treatment plans and other appropriate forms.
  • Assist new resident’s adjustment to facility.
  • Escorts residents on outside trips or activities.
  • Arranges for trips including notifying appropriate departments and staff when a resident is going on a trip.
  • Participates as a member of the Interdisciplinary Health Care team in determining goals for the residents.
  • Performs related tasks and other duties as assigned by Recreation Therapy Supervisor.

  • Follow written or oral instructions.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Work with ill, disabled, elderly and emotionally upset people within a long-term care facility.
  • Work harmoniously with other employees and residents based on whatever maturity level they currently function.
  • Use various audio-visual equipment.
  • Physically perform the duties of the position.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, residents, family members, visitors, government officials and the general public.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
