Position Title: Building Guard

Salary: $21.7111 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma or its equivalent AND one (1) year experience as a security officer. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. 

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

The incumbent maintains a safe environment for employees, residents, visitors, and volunteers along with protecting the Kane Regional Center property and the personal property of all individuals at the Regional Center in accordance with Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and under the direction of the Assistant chief of Security.

 



Overview:


Duties:

  • Patrols the building, grounds and parking areas.
  • Assures that appropriate areas are locked or unlocked as needed.
  • Monitors CCTV cameras, which view perimeters, entrances, elevators, and receiving areas.
  • Checks for unauthorized people or vehicles.
  • Checks all fire exits and perimeter doors, and keeps clear for emergency use.
  • Investigates reports of criminal behavior or violations of policy and reports findings to proper authorities.
  • Assists emergency personnel (police, fire, paramedics) called to the Regional Center.
  • Assists nursing staff with the funeral home representatives in removing deceased residents.
  • Intercedes in situations threatening the safety of all residents, staff and visitors in buildings, grounds, or parking lots, and apprehends and detains as needed.
  • Controls traffic entering and leaving the regional center maintaining clear passage for emergency vehicles and buses.
  • Assists in fire tests and drills.
  • Accompanies and monitors pharmacy’s drug removal to infectious waste cooler.
  • Escorts employees to vehicles upon request.
  • As directed, searches belongings of employees and visitors for weapons and/or contraband.
  • Answers telephones in emergency situations, or the absence of the switchboard operator.
  • Performs related tasks and duties as assigned or directed by Assistant Chief of Security.

 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Security principles and practices.
  • Alarm systems, intrusion alarm, and elevator functions.



Skill in:


Ability to:

  • Communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess the skill in the application of the methods and techniques of physical restraint.
  • Work with the ill. Disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within a long-term facility.
  • Physically perform the duties of the position such as walking stairways, long distances, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co=workers, residents, family members, and the general public. 



Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
