Minimum Requirements:
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent
- One (1) year of experience working with residents in a health care setting.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. Position Summary:
Reporting to the Recreational Therapist Supervisor, the Recreation Aide assists and encourages resident participation in therapeutic recreation programs and activities to meet the physical, intellectual, psychological, and social needs of residents. Work is performed in accordance with Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained. This position is located at the Ross Township location.
Overview:
Duties:
- Assists Recreation Therapist in planning monthly calendar of recreation activities.
- Leads resident participation in programmed therapeutic activities.
- Assists new residents in adjustment to the facility and encourages their participation in activities; inquires with residents and their families regarding needs and interests.
- Develops a monthly birthday board for residents to celebrate.
- Decorates recreation rooms monthly to orient residents to seasonal, holiday, and special events.
- Updates reality orientation board daily.
- Charts weekly reports on residents and documents participation in activities, reports problems to the recreation therapist and other departments.
- Informs residents and staff of schedules and location of activities; posts a room calendar on the first day of each month in each assigned resident’s room listing activities.
- Arranges for trips, including notifying appropriate departments and staff when a resident is going on a trip; escorts residents on outside trips or activities.
- Visits with residents who do not attend activities or who are confined to their rooms.
- Performs related duties as assigned or directed.

- Work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally labile people within a long-term care facility.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, residents, family members, government officials, and the general public.
- Follow safety precautions when performing all duties.
- Use audio-visual equipment.
Residency:
Allegheny County within 1 year.
