Position Title: Chaplain (Part – Time)

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Divinity, or a closely related field AND two (2) years of pastoral care experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verifications of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be complete within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer.


Position Summary:

The incumbent enhances the spiritual well-being of residents, their families, employees, and visitors by directing religious activities in the Regional Center. Activities include programs of worship, counseling, sacramental participation, and moral support to foster the religious tradition of the individual in accordance with Federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern long-term care facilities under the direction of the Regional Center Administrator. The incumbent works part-time and is subject to irregular work hours based on staffing needs as determined by management.



Overview:


Duties:

 

  • Conducts worship services; presides at liturgies and sacred celebrations on a regular basis.
  • Visits residents, especially those who are seriously ill, newly admitted, or requesting visit.
  • Counsels and provides pastoral support in spiritual and personal matters.
  • Administers sacraments and performs rites according to the appropriate religious tradition.
  • Attends and participates in resident care conferences.
  • Develops or presides at special liturgical services such as religious holidays, memorial celebrations for deceased, and volunteer appreciation.
  • Maintains files on sacramental ministry and chapel attendance.    
  • Assists Volunteer Coordinator in making contacts with parishes and congregations to recruit volunteers to assist the Pastoral Care Department. 
  • Ensures that bread, wine, candles, and other required material are stocked and prepared for services.
  • Types and submits reports, special worship bulletins, and letters. 
  • Maintains files on sacramental ministry and chapel attendance.    
  • Acts as Regional Center liaison with local civic and religious community. 
  • Performs related tasks and other duties as assigned by the Regional Center Administrator.

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
