Position Title: Resident Accounts Specialist

Salary: $40,249.44 per year

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s Degree in a related field AND one (1) year experience in a nursing facility office, hospital office, or medical office processing patient account information. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.


Position Summary:

The incumbent, upon a resident’s admission to the facility, assists both resident and family members’ transition, coordinates the initial steps of the business office admission process, and thereafter process resident fund transactions, facility census tracking procedures, and handles other resident account related workflows.



Overview:


Duties:

  • Verifies primary and secondary insurance and includes deductibles, coinsurance, billing forms, and other related documentation; Provides such information to other health providers such as pharmacy, lab, physicians, ambulance, therapy, radiology, etc. as appropriate.
  • Prepares, reviews, and explains Kane Community Living Center admission packet documentation with Resident/Family upon admission to the facility and schedules admission meetings.
  • Inputs resident data into computer databases and creates and distributes face sheets and addressograph plates.
  • Prepares documentation for biller to submit for reimbursement.
  • Communicates with family members, hospital representatives, and physician offices regarding resident’s finances and notifies resident or family member if resident account balance is close to Medical Assistance Limits.
  • Assists with monitoring MA approvals and renewal applications, coordinates AAA Options assessments and material, and processes MA opening letters.
  • Assists with resident quarterly resident fund statements distribution and updates resident and family contact information.
  • Establishes Irrevocable Burial Funds for residents.
  • Obtains documentation for all resident fund disbursements, including actual receipts for monies forwarded to, and spent by, Power of Attorneys and family members.
  • Completes check requests and vouchers for withdrawals and payment of bills, batches the vouchers daily, and verifies accuracy of data entry report that comes back.
  • Monitors hospital transfers, posts census changes to computer, and distributes census data.
  • Assists with daily census reconciliation as directed by the Business Office Manager.
  • Receives payments and issues receipts. Posts payments to computer system and notifies Manager of rejected claims.
  • Acts as cashier for resident funds, obtains required signatures, batches the cash withdrawals daily, and verifies accuracy of data entry report.
  • Inputs resident fund withdrawals daily into billing software system.
  • Handles resident close account process procedures at the beginning of the day of discharge.
  • Screens private statements as directed.
  • Maintains organized filing system, task lists, in and out baskets, tickler files, and to do lists.
  • Performs related tasks and duties as assigned by the Business Office Manager.
