Purpose of the Board is to purchase the development rights of undeveloped farm land in Allegheny County. Development rights are held as easements against the property- land cannot be developed. Created by State law (ACT 149 of 1988) and funded by the State. First meeting held on February 25, 1999. Funding for the Administrator comes from Allegheny County. The Administrator of the program is currently Allegheny Land Trust. The Board is comprised of 5 members, serving three year terms. Two members must be active Farmers, One member must be a Contractor/Developer Representative, One member At-large, One member must be a Municipal Official.
