Directory of Organizations and Advisory Groups in Allegheny County

Allegheny County prides itself on its diversity. From our citizenry to our workforce, individuals of all ages, colors, disabilities, national origin, religions, races, and genders have a role in our county. That diversity also applies to the county’s authorities, boards and commissions as every attempt is to make each of these entities as diverse as the county itself.

If you have an interest in serving on an authority, board or commission, and would like to bring your own diverse background to the table, you may send a letter of interest and your resume to:

Details:
In 1959, the Pennsylvania Legislature authorized the consolidation of 33 private transit carriers, many of which were in dire financial straits. By combining fare structures and centralizing operations, Port Authority established the first unified transit system in Allegheny County in March 1964. In June 2022, Port Authority was rebranded to Pittsburgh Regional Transit. The Pittsburgh Regional Transit is governed by an 11-member Board appointed by the Allegheny County Executive (4), the county executive with council approval (2), the governor (1), the President Pro Tempore of the Senate (1), the Senate Minority Leader (1), the Speaker of the House of Representatives (1), and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives (1).
