Established by PA Drug & Alcohol Abuse Control Act of 1972. The Council's purpose is to aid and assist, as the statutory and County Executive's approved citizen body, the County Executive and the Allegheny County DHS Director in the planning, development and implementation of the provision of services for individuals with addiction problems who are residents of Allegheny County. There are fifteen (15) members represented by the following: Criminal Justice, Business or Industry, Labor, Education, Medicine, Psycho-social Professional, Student, Elderly, Client and Community. Members serve a three (3) year term not more than two terms, no more than 60% of the same sex. Term begins on the date of confirmation/appointment by County Council. Two ex-officio members serve: One is appointed by the Allegheny County Health Department Director and has no voting priviledges nor term limitations. One is elected by the Service Provider Task Force from its membership. This member has no voting priviledges but does comply with the same term limitations as the voting members.
