District 3 Council RepresentativeLissa Geiger ShulmanPhone: 412-350-6490
Standing Committees: Chair: Sustainability and Green Initiatives Member: Assessment Practices, Government Reform, Health & Human Services, Housing and Homelessness, Intergovernmental Affairs, Parks Lissa is a strong advocate for children, families, and the residents of Allegheny County. A Pitt alumna, Lissa’s career began in the footsteps of three of her grandparents, all of whom were school teachers. Lissa completed an Americorps teaching leadership program that trains college graduates and places them into classrooms in under-resourced schools. After the program, Lissa was hired by Pittsburgh Public Schools, gaining more firsthand experience in classrooms and knowledge of the policies and programs that support students’ success.
After a furlough, Lissa spent time working for state House members, and as Chief of Staff was responsible for overseeing constituent services, events, and legislation. She played an integral role in the development of the first Disability and Mental Health Summit. Lissa also worked in the non-profit space leading advocacy work for an early childhood nonprofit. She led coalitions who won over $100 million of new, recurring state investments in children and families.
Lissa now works as a public policy consultant where her work has included championing quality, affordable pre-k and childcare and adequately and fairly funded public schools. She currently directs Allegheny Prenatal to Three which coordinates programs, partnerships, and funding sources to increase available services to families across the County.
Lissa is a Hampton Rotarian, a PTO board member for her children’s public school, and a community leader and volunteer for multiple community organizations. She lives with her husband and three children in Hampton Township. When they aren’t busy with athletic practices or competitions, they enjoy getting outside in many of the County and municipal parks across the region, and exploring museums and cultural institutions.
