Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or its equivalent. Four (4) years of experience in the plumbing trade and completion of an approved apprenticeship program OR six (6) years of experience as a Plumber.
  • Certification for Back Flow Preventers.
  • A valid PA Class C Driver’s license required prior to appointment. 
  • CDL and Master Plumber License preferred.

Position Summary:

The Plumber Supervisor oversees skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures at Facilities owned/maintained by and throughout Allegheny County including but not limited to office buildings, park facilities, the Medical Examiner’s Office, the Allegheny County Jail, and the Kane Regional Centers. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for managing the plumbing shop, a pool of Facilities Management plumbers, and the work performed through this staff. Receiving work assignments from the Operations Manager and utilizing the work order management system, this position is then responsible for assigning personnel to projects, prioritizing workload, estimating materials and quantities needed for projects, purchasing necessary supplies, inspecting, and approving work.

Duties:

  • Assign work according to staff skills on a daily basis utilizing the work order management system (Cityworks).
  • Manage employee timecards through the NOVAtime System.
  • Inspect work to insure it is being done as assigned and in accordance with plumbing standards.
  • Perform layout work; make material list and give directions regarding procedures and timetable for completion.
  • Review and estimate materials and man-hours for jobs requested by other departments and determine if work should be done in-house or contracted out.
  • Meet and discuss special needs/requests and construction projects with involved outside parties, such as contractors, engineers, vendors, special organizations, and other departments.
  • Ensure employees follow policies, procedures and safe practices.
  • Coach employees as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, practices, materials, and tools of the plumbing trade.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Industrial, commercial, and residential plumbing practices;
  • All applicable plumbing codes.

Skill in:

  • Microsoft Office products.

Ability to:

  • Direct subordinate activities.
  • Repair, install, alter, maintain, and locate defects in a variety of plumbing equipment, systems, and fixtures.
  • Install backflow valves.
  • Complete assignments and projects on time.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions, sketches and blueprints.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Be on call 24/7 in case of emergency.
  • Lift up to 100 pounds.  

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
