Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma or its equivalent AND three (3) years of experience as a security officer or in law enforcement, or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is acceptable.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.
Position Summary:
The incumbent maintains a safe environment for employees, residents, visitors and volunteers, protecting Kane Community Living Center property and the personal property of all individuals. Work is performed in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long-term care facilities, and as directed by the Environmental Services Manager.
Overview:
Duties:
- Schedules security staff to provide twenty-four-hour coverage of Kane Community Living Center.
- Supervises and monitors on-site work activities and employee performance; recommends disciplinary action as necessary.
- Implements security, safety or emergency policies and procedures for circumstances such as bomb threats, searches, fires, weather emergencies or similar situations.
- Develops and maintains files of investigations, incident reports and monthly activity reports.
- Inspects facility daily to ensure the safety of residents, visitors and employees.
- Assures that electronic security systems, such as surveillance, entry control monitoring systems and outdoor perimeter cameras are functioning properly.
- Ensures that entrances, parking lots and other access areas are well lit.
- Maintains locking systems and keys.
- Schedules employees for training in law enforcement or new techniques applicable to security measures and systems.
- Notifies the Environmental Services Manager and Regional Center Administrator of security concerns.
- Reports criminal activity to authorities and to the Environmental Services Manager.
- Performs related tasks and duties as assigned by the Environmental Services Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Principles of supervision.
- Security principles, practices and techniques.
- Federal, state and local laws regarding security measures applicable to safeguarding residents, employees and visitors in long term care facilities.
- Use of materials commonly used to restrain and detain offenders.
Skill in:
- Security monitoring systems and methods
Ability to:
- Physically perform the essential functions of a security officer.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, subordinates, residents, family members and the general public.
Residency:
Allegheny County within 1 year.
