Councilman Sam DeMarco was first elected in November of 2015. He is a North Fayette Township resident and the Chairman of the Republican Caucus of Allegheny County Council, serving in that role since January 2018. He is the Chairman of the Appointment Review Committee and sits on the Executive, Budget & Finance, Economic Development & Housing, Public Works and Public Safety committees as well.

As a Sales Executive in the document management industry for more than 29 years at IKON Office Solutions, Xerox, and Ricoh, Councilman DeMarco has helped many of this region’s leading Universities and Fortune 500 companies improve their business processes and reduce their costs through the implementation of technology and best practices. His expertise has been a key factor in helping county government better serve the residents of Allegheny county through promoting more efficient, more responsive, and more cost-effective government. He holds a number of IT certifications including that of a Certified Document Imaging Architect.

His current role as an Account Manager for Capture Solutions at a leading Software Company gives him an understanding of the role Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning can play in business and government today. The additional exposure to new technologies like Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Blockchain, help prepare him for potential solutions which will drive future process improvements and efficiencies while also protecting your information.

Immediately following his 2015 election, Councilman DeMarco enrolled in Local Government Academy’s “Newly Elected Officials” course, a 13-week program, which he credits for giving him the tools and insight to be an effective public servant from day one. He was selected to participate in and graduated from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania’s “CCAP Center for Excellence in County Leadership” Program in June of 2017. He was also selected to participate in Leadership Pittsburgh’s 2017-2018 Class, LPXXXIV. Leadership Pittsburgh is a 10-month program geared towards established senior level leaders. From September 2017 through his graduation in June 2018, he participated in the once-a-month Leadership Pittsburgh sessions which provided the over 60 participants with the education, exposure, experiences and connections to prepare them to tackle the challenges of senior leadership in our community today. Councilman DeMarco is also a 2019 graduate of the FBI’s Citizen Academy.

The Councilman is also very involved in our non-profit community and currently sits on the Board of Trustees for the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the Board of Trustees for Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum Trust, and the Board of Visit Pittsburgh, the official tourism promotion agency for Allegheny County. He is also an Honorary Board Member of the Tuskegee Airman Memorial of Western Pennsylvania Region, and a member of Amen Corner.

In addition, Councilman DeMarco serves as the Chairman of the Republican Committee of Allegheny County and as the Chairman of the PA Republican State Committee’s Southwest Caucus. He is also the former Chairman of the North Fayette Republican Committee and former President of Veterans and Patriots United. He is a Lifetime member of both Firearm Owners Against Crime and the Marine Corps League South Hills Detachment #726.

Councilman DeMarco is a United States Marine Corps veteran having served as an avionics technician in support of VMFP-3, a Marine Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron and VMFA-142, a Marine Corps Fighter Attack Squadron during his 4 year tour of duty. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Pittsburgh where he attended the University of Pittsburgh, studying Political and Computer Science.

He is a recognized local conservative, a frequent guest on both Rose Tennent’s radio show “Rose Unplugged”, Ellis Cannon’s “Night Talk” and Chris Moore’s “Pittsburgh Now” which are broadcast on PCNC. He also appears on the PG/KDKA Sunday Morning show as well as many others. In addition, he has served as a panelist at the PA Leadership Conference, the Heritage Foundation’s President Club Conference in Washington, D.C., Get Involved Inc.’s Power Hour, and many others.

Under the category of things you might not know about the Councilman, before his career in the document management and software industries, Councilman DeMarco worked for Frank Fuhrer Wholesale Company as a sales representative responsible for introducing and building the market share of “Coors Brewing” products in Allegheny County. Prior to that, he worked first as an apprentice and then as a journeyman glazier with Glaziers Local Union #751 during Pittsburgh’s Renaissance II building period. The Councilman is very proud of his time as a member of the building trades before transitioning to his career in sales. He continues to have great respect and admiration for those who “Build America.”
