Summer-Term Members

Summer-term members serve at community based organizations or faith-based organizations that host summer camps or offer other educational summer programming. Though each site is different, the schedule is usually Monday through Friday.

2018 Summer Term
Dates May 22, 2018 through August 10, 2018
Amount of Service: At least 450 Hours (about 41 hours per week)
Stipend: $3,675 before taxes (approximately $612 every two weeks before taxes) First pay received on June 13
Education Award: $1,538.36 (Received upon successful completion of term-of-service, the Ed Award can be used to pay for the costs of attending a qualified institution of higher education or to pay back qualified student loans.)
Child Care Subsidy: Available to eligible members.
Medical Care: Not available.

Education Award

A member who successfully completes his/her term of service will receive an Education Award which can be used to pay for the costs of attending a qualified institution of higher education or to pay back qualified student loans.

Forbearance

Qualified student loans typically can be placed into forbearance if they are federally backed, in your name, and not in default.

Payment of Interest

All or a portion of the interest on student loans (placed in forbearance) that accrued during the term-of-service are paid if the member successfully completes the term-of-service.

Training

Every Wednesday, from 8:00 to 9:00 am, members receive paid training throughout the term-of-service including conflict resolution, team-building, CPR/First Aid, mentoring and articulation.

Location of Service

Community-based organizations in Allegheny County host sites

Type of Service

AmeriCorps members will provide summer activities to youth such as: mentoring, fitness, summer reading, arts, field trips. Members working with older youth model workplace skills and lead the youth in service projects.

Schedule

Depends on the service site but is typically Monday through Friday during the day with evenings and weekends off.

Clearances

KEYS will conduct clearances (National Sex Offender Database, PA Child Abuse History, PA Criminal Record Check, and FBI) for candidates.

Note

Candidates will be required to attend a host site interview day and complete payroll documentation on Tuesday, May 15 prior to training. If you cannot attend on May 15, please contact KEYS for alternative arrangements.
